Seminar - Why the Mahabharata Still Enthralls - 21/01/2026

The department organised a seminar focusing on the contemporary relevance of the Mahabharata, delivered by Dr Sreedevi K Menon, Associate Professor of English, Mercy College Palakkad. The talk examined the Mahabharata not merely as a mythological epic but as a profound repository of timeless dilemmas and psychological insights that resonate with contemporary life. It highlighted how the epic’s central concerns—dharma, ethical ambiguity, governance, and familial and social conflict—closely parallel present-day challenges in leadership, justice, and personal integrity. The seminar ultimately reaffirmed the epic’s significance within Indian Knowledge Systems, presenting it as a vital source of wisdom for critically engaging with the pressing issues of the modern world.
